The Allan Water is an excellent trout, sea trout and salmon river. Approximately 15 Kilometres is controlled by the Allan Water Angling Improvement Association and season, weekly, and daily permits are available.
Run Timings.
Sea trout normally enter the river about mid- April and can provide excellent sport throughout the summer evenings upstream of Kinbuck. Some skill is required to catch these wily fish and the motto “Fine and far off” is worth remembering. Sea trout stocks are a little precarious and the Association adopts a voluntary catch and release policy for sea trout.
It is rare for salmon to enter the river before June but the occasional multi-sea winter fish comes in along with the sea trout. The Association urges its members to return all salmon caught before the end of June. The Allan is dependant on water and the timing of the grilse run can not be easily predicted. Given suitable water however grilse will enter the river after the middle of July and will come in with every flood until the end of the season. Salmon and sea trout may be fished for using fly, spinner, or bait but restrictions apply.

Fishing Season.
Fishing for trout extends from 15th March until 6th October
