100th Annual General Meeting.
The annual general meeting was held in Braeport Centre at Dunblane on 29th November and despite the dreadful weather a good number of members attended. The president opened the meeting and gave a brief rundown of the past season in general. He went on to say that the Association was adopting a pro active conservation position with a view to reversing the continuing decline in salmon and sea trout stocks.
John McKenzie, the secretary, then read out his report for the year highlighting a number of issues of importance and informed the meeting that three committee members are to be fully trained as warranted bailiffs to operate alongside the Forth District Salmon Fishery Board. Two committee members are also being trained as accredited sprayers to lead teams to spray hogweed during the coming season.
Catch returns for salmon for the season were significantly down on 2010 and were as follows
Salmon 209 (323) sea trout and 76 (64) trout 723 (535)
Some 20 rainbow trout were also reported caught. These presumably came from the commercial rainbow fisheries at Kinbuck, Feddal, and Orchill.
The Treasurer then made his report and said that due to in-house savings and a small but welcome reduction in rent the Association had reduced its annual losses from £8,909 in 2010 to £4976 this year. There was then a brief discussion regarding subscription fees and the meeting approved a rise by £10 for full members and senior members.
Committee elections were then held and John McKenzie was re-elected unopposed as secretary. Mr MacKay who has been treasurer since 1981 retired and Mr Paul Nardini was appointed as treasurer. A proposal that for his 30 years of service as treasurer Mr MacKay should be awarded a life membership was unanimously approved
Dr. Joanna Girvan of the River Forth Fisheries Trust gave a brief presentation to the meeting highlighting the works that had been done on the Scouring Burn at Dunblane with a view to improving access for salmon, and on the Muckle Burn to assess fish populations.
The President then close the meeting and thanked Joanna and all those who attended for coming out on such a dreadful night.
